SHERIFF’S RACE HEATS UP IN CAMDEN COUNTY, GA

By R. A. Pearson

Embattled Camden County Sheriff Bill Smith will face a challenger in July’s Republican Primary. The contender, Tommy Gregory, has 24 years of law enforcement experience with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kingsland Police Department. During these years Gregory has served in patrol, investigative, and administrative capacities.

Gregory’s platform includes saving the taxpayers money by spending seized drug money only in Camden County, assigning more deputies to patrol increasing public visibility, and boosting the sheriff’s office employee’s moral by changing the employment policy from ‘at-will’ to ‘just-cause.’ Finally he plans to reform the trustee program at the Camden County jail.
